Founded in 1983 in order to provide the municipality of Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges of parks and equipment of leisure, the Corporation of development of Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges (Codef Inc.) is a non-profit institution independent of the municipality whose vocation was quickly reoriented.

In 1984, during the closing of the hydroelectric complex Les Sept-Chutes, located in the heart of the municipality, the administrators of Codef, who deplored the closing of this important economic engine for citizens and local tradesmen, undertook to transform the site and to emphasize it by giving it a tourist vocation. At the time, the small group of 6 people undertook to negotiate with the leaders of Hydro-Quebec, owner of the site, in order to obtain the authorization to exploit the site at recreotouristic ends.

As of now, the site was mobilized to gather necessary funds and the Corporation undertook the realization of major work since 1986. The arrangement of the site Sept-Chutes took a span since 1987; it is one of the main projects of the Corporation. This not only gave a second life to the site but this project also contributed to the economic, social and cultural development of all of Côte-de-Beaupré.

The volunteers and the employees of Codef restored the buildings, built belvederes, set up fences for safety, processed the construction of an interpretation center, and arranged the paths, the surfaces of picnics and play areas. Through the years, the managers preserved the uniqueness of the place and added poles and reception facilities to attract visitors. This allows discovering the unique site with 750,000 visitors up-to-date.

Proud of its achievements but resolutely turned towards the future, the board of directors of Codef initiated, as of winter 2005, an important step of its history, whether it’s a vast reflection on its future. This serious and exhaustive step proceeded over a period of more than twenty four months. The plenary with employee-keys and meetings carried the organization to provide a development plan in 2007-2012.

Following this step, the report is clear for members of board of directors: The Corporation of development of Saint-Ferréol-les-Neiges (Codef Inc.) must direct and dedicate its mission and all its actions on the site of interpretation and outdoor centre with the goal of becoming a more important and more visible tourist attraction on the market.

The first action is enforced :

To modify the name of the organization so that it is based on its new mission. It then becomes :
